How to Make the Transition to Denatonium Benzoate Simple and Easy

Did you know that each year more than 6,000 people die and an estimated 300,000 suffer disabling illnesses as a result of unintentional poisoning by solid and liquid substances in the USA?

Unintentional poisonings can happen to anyone, at any time, in any situation.

While child-resistant packaging has greatly reduced the number of fatalities among children under five years of age, companies still owe consumers a high Duty of Care. Is the taste of Denatonium benzoate getting you down? Always ask for CUSTOM PACKING!

One of the biggest mistakes made by by users of Denatonium benzoate around the world is to not ask for custom packing. Did you know that all my customers have voted Denatonium Benzoate as the messiest and most irritating product that workers have to deal with?

Although you may never have to touch it, this can be the most frustrating product for your staff. Denatonium benzoate is the bittterest substance in the world. Make sure that you think about your staff and keep handling to a minimum.

The way to solve this problem is to ask your supplier for customized packing. Tell them your batch sizes and let them customize packing to suit you. If they cant do that, then give me a call. I am happy to do this for you FREE. If you are not sure how much Denatonium benzoate to add to each batch, please let me know, and I will provide you with the exact amount needed. In fact, I will go so far as to make sure that I package your requirements to minimize handling. No questions asked.

My staff are so fond of Denatonium benzoate that they have, in instances measured it in less than 18 grams, and then packaged it in small air tight bags. Another customer requires it Denatonium Benzoate solution in 50 grams. That way, not only are the company staff happy, but they required less denatonium benzoate a year. Yes, the issue of wastage is also solved.

Why keep large stock of Denatonium Benzoate, when you can get delivery within 10 days!!

Do you keep stock of Denatonium benzoate because you are told to? Are you keeping stock because you are told it takes more than 20 days to have it delivered to you? If you cannot get delivery within 10 days to your manufacturing site, then you should be asking questions!!! Make sure that you are not being charged freight fees too!!!

Guest's from Belgium

Manufacturing plant
Originally uploaded by denatoniumbenzoate.

Last month we had some special guests from Belgium have a look around our manufacturing plant. They were happy to see the great lengths we went to make sure that the Denatonium benzoate they were supplied with, was being custom packed. By blending their requirement into a solution, they do not have the problems with handling. No dusting, and more importantly, no more unhappy staff!

How much does it cost to Add Denatonium benzoate to harmful products?

It has been said that Denatonium Benzoate can be added to a product for less than 5 cents a litre. So why aren't companies adding it to their harmful products?

Good question! Maybe it's because companies are reluctant to pay that added few cents. Sometimes they see it as being too difficult to contemplate. Other times its because of handling issues. Yes, it can be a pain to deal with.

We assure companies that they can add it to their products for less than 2 cents a litre. Why? Becuase we manufacture Denatonium benzoate!! If you aren’t sure, please compare prices. We even offer F.O.B, C.I.F, delivered to your door, bulk quantity discounts, C.O.D discounts, 12 month service contract agreement discounts, packaging discounts, so that you always get the best price. Therefore, cost shold not be an issue?

So why do companies still um and arr about adding denatonium benzoate to their product? Handling you may say? Well, we make sure that Denatonium benzoate is custom packed to suit your requirements. Therefore, less handling means less stress, less mess, and less wastage.

Now, I ask you again. Why are companies not adding Denatonium benzoate to their products? Hmmm. Sometimes, you have to think and wonder.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

What is Denatonium benzoate?

Denatonium Benzoate is the world’s bitterest known substance. If your not sure what it would taste like, then think back to when you were young and you used to bite your nails. If it bothered your parent, then I'm sure you may have tasted it in the form of an anti-nail biting solution. YUCK! Yes, that aweful bitter taste!

By adding as little as thirty (30) parts of Denatonium Benzoate to one million parts of a liquid, it makes any liquid too bitter to be tolerated by most human subjects. The Guinness Book of Records has described this substance as the bitterest compound known to man.

For the chemistry buffs, Denatonium Benzoate is a close relative of the local anesthetic lidocaine – its structure differs from lidocaine by the addition of a single benzyl group.

Because of its aversive reaction, Denatonium Benzoate is increasingly being used as an aversion additive. When added to household items, such as toiletries and to outdoor products such as pesticides, it helps to prevent accidental poisonings.

Denatonium Benzoate is a very bitter product and as a result, companies are turning towards this to provide their customers with added protection. As consumers, we too should be asking "Does this product contain the bittering agent, Denatonium Benzoate, the most bitterest substance in the world?"

What products do you want to see Denatonium benzoate be added in?

Do you know that you have Denatonium Benzoate in your home!

That's correct! Denatonium benzoate is in your home right as you read! You may not know it, but I assure you, that it's there. Let's go through a few for you. At present, here are some products in which Denatonium Benzoate is being used;

Household products : Yes, did you know that perfumes, toiletries and some bathroom cleaners contain Denatonium benzoate. Wow, you may be saying.

Industrial products : Biodiesel and other ethanol related products contain the bittering agent, Denatonium benzoate.

Garden products : some slug and snail pellets, rat bait and even deer, dog and cat repellents.

Automotive products : although some antifreeze and coolants may contain Denatonium benzoate, there is still a push for the larger manufacturers to add a bittering agent in their antifreeze.

At RC Pharmachem, I am always on the look out for different ways that Denatonium benzoate can be used.

Whether it be a detterent, aversive or even a denaturant, I am constantly, and neverendingly improving what I can offer our customers.

If you have an idea that you think may work, please leave me a question.

Pet Safety Article

I found this article which I think gives general information on safety to pets.

Title: Pet Safety

Author: Lee Dobbins

Article:
Your home might be "kid-proof" but how does it measure up whenit comes to safety for your pet? Do you know all the hazardsyour pet is exposed to? How about what plants are poisonous andwhat foods should be avoided? Caring for your pet is more than just making sure he has enoughfood, water and gets the appropriate veterinary care, it alsomeans providing a pet safe environment so that your furry, feathered or scaly friend can stay safe and healthy.

Unfortunately, there are many hazards your pet is exposed toeach day that could put them in danger. Being aware of them sothat you can keep your pet out of harms way is theresponsibility of every pet owner.Sometimes your guests can be the biggest hazard to your pet. Ifyou have indoor pets, your quests may not realize this and opendoors or windows around them that could allow them to “escape”to the great outdoors. Well meaning dinner guests and partygo-ers could overfeed your pet and cause him to become ill.Imagine if you had 20 guests and each one fed "treats" to yourpet! To insure pet safety when you have guests try keeping thepet in a crate or another room that the quests will not beallowed into. This may actually be more comfortable for your pettoo as it may make him nervous to have so many people around ifhe is not used to it. Instruct your guests not to let theanimals outside if they should get into the main house.

Makesure your pet wears tags so he can be identified and returnshould he get out by mistake. The holidays should be enjoyed by both you and your pets, sokeep pet safety in mind when decorating and celebrating.Remember that small objects can cause an intestinal blockage ifeaten so be sure to remove all tinsel, Easter grass, confetti, small toys and wrapping paper. Don’t leave candles unattendedwith pets near. Pet costumes can be cute, but make sure thereare no lose strings that could choke your pet or that he can gethis limbs caught in. It is best to not leave your pet unattendedwhen you have him dressed up.

Make sure electrical cords arekept away for pets especially puppies. They can chew through thecord and get burned or even electrocuted. After decorating for aholiday, make sure to observe your pet around the newdecorations for several hours to see if they develop any unsafehabits around certain items - you may need to remove or rethinkyour decorating if it looks like there could be a hazard. I hada ferret that liked to jump into the tree and grab all the shinyornaments so I stopped decorating the bottom of the tree toprevent this as I was afraid the glass would break and injureher! When feeding your pet treats, it is important to know that theyshould not eat certain foods. In general “people food” should begiven to pets sparingly if at all, but some foods can be toxic. Most of the greasy holiday foods that we love to eat are notgood for them and overfeeding can make them ill. In particulardo not feed them chocolate - it can be fatal especially to cats.So make sure you move those valentine candies, Easter eggs andchocolate Santas out of pets reach.

Other foods to avoid areonions, alcohol and poultry bones. In addition, birds should notbe fed avocados, dairy products, fruit seeds, potatoes, cabbage, green beans, lemons, rhubarb, grapefruit, plums and, of course, caffeine, chocolate, and alchohol. Any of these can be harmfuland even fatal to your feathered friend! Also, keep in mind thatthe fumes from non stick pans can be fatal for pet birds so keepyour bird out of the kitchen, or better yet, switch to cast ironpans. When decorating with plants either for the holidays or just ingeneral, keep pet safety in mind.

There are many toxic plantsbut common toxic holiday plants include potted bulbs, ivy, holly, mistletoe and greens (contrary to popular beliefpoinsettia are not overly dangerous but I still wouldn't let mypet eat one!). This is not an exhaustive list so before youbring any new plant into the house please research it'stoxicity.

It’s just as important to look out for your pets safety outsideas it is inside. Beware that antifreeze is extremely toxic topets. Keep your pet away from any puddles that might contain it.Rock salt can be irritating to pet paws and also to theirstomach if eaten or licked off the paws. Use common sense whenpracticing pet safety during the winter months.

ANIMAL FACTS 2005 : DORIS DAY ANIMAL LEAGUE

Some good information from the Doris Day Foundation. There is a link where you can submit a letter to your representative, asking them to cosponsor the Antifreeze Safety Act when it is reintroduced in the 109th Congress. See here http://econstituent.votenet.com/(o2wxj045p5krpl3a1vgvf445)/index.aspx/ddal/letterwriting1.aspx?issueid=431&takeaction=1

Here is a Safety sheet they also put out. I think it is good information.

If you are feeling generous, please donate. It's a great cause.

ANTIFREEZE SAFETY ACT

The Issue:
Hundreds of children and thousands of animals (including companion animals and endangered species) are accidentally poisoned each year from ingesting antifreeze. Its sweet taste attracts them, but less than a teaspoonful can be fatal. Several federal laws classify it as a hazardous substance.

Children and animals come into contact with it through containers that are not tightly sealed or are discarded carelessly, leaks on driveways and in garages, and spills along the road. Dogs have been known to chew through the containers to get at the antifreeze.

The Solution:
Many of these tragedies could be prevented if just a few drops of an innocuous bittering agent called denatonium benzoate were added to the antifreeze. Unfortunately, the manufacturers of ethylene glycol antifreeze have not taken this simple, life-saving step on their own, even though they themselves acknowledge that it would cost very little to do!

The Antifreeze Safety Act would require that engine coolant/antifreeze that is more than 10 percent ethylene glycol must also contain denatonium benzoate, the world’s bitterest known substance, to render it unpalatable. This legislation will help save countless animal lives and reduce the number of childhood emergencies.

What You Can Do:
Ask your representative to cosponsor the Antifreeze Safety Act when it is reintroduced to help prevent accidental poisonings of companion animals and children. You can reach your federal legislators through the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Or visit DDAL’s Web site to send an Action Letter directly to Members of Congress.

The Children’s Defense Fund, World Wildlife Fund, Consumers Union, Pet Food Institute, U.S. Conference of Mayors, Natural Resources Defense Council and the American Veterinary Medical Association have all endorsed this bill. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Association of Poison Control Centers, the American Medical Association, the National Safety Council and the American Journal of Public Health all recommend adding an aversive agent to antifreeze.

Denatonium benzoate - the bittering agent

Thought I would add some information on Denatonium Benzoate, the most commonly used bittering agent used. Do you think we can make a DIY kit, to make the chemicals you use at home bitter? Anyway, here is some information on Denatonium benzoate.

Denatonium Benzoate is the world’s bitterest known substance. By adding as little as thirty (30) parts of Denatonium Benzoate to one million parts of a liquid, it makes that liquid too bitter to be tolerated by most human subjects. The Guinness Book of Records has described this substance as the bitterest compound known to man. Chemically, Denatonium Benzoate is a close relative of the local anesthetic lidocaine – its structure differs from lidocaine by the addition of a single benzyl group. Because of its aversive reaction, Denatonium Benzoate is increasingly being used as an aversion additive. When added to household items, such as toiletries and to outdoor products such as pesticides, it helps to prevent accidental poisonings. Denatonium Benzoate is inert and odorless. ...my insides are too yellowed...: i'm so proud of you

...my insides are too yellowed...: i'm so proud of you

It is posts like this that makes me work harder to make changes to this world. We are not sure how her dog was able to get to the antifreeze, but if it contained a bitter agent, then maybe, she wouldn't have to write something like that. Let hope we can start taking action "NOW" to help our furry friends.

Do you know of any good pet sites?

Yes, I have been looking for some good pet sites or blogs to link to. Does anyone know of any?

Anyway, there are a number of countries which are doing their best to make sure pets are protected from harmful products. I know Australia has been doing that for some time. Today, I found that France requires manufacturers of antifreeze to add a small amount of a bittering agent to those products. Viva la France! It's good to see proactive governments taking the lead in pet protection.

Kids Back Antifreeze Bills to Protect Pets

Woke up this morning to wonderful news!!! Some movement on the Legislative side.

For a number of years, people across the States have been taking action and voicing their opinions regarding the sweet tasting, but also very harmful product, antifreeze. In particular, in 2003, a dog named Scooby, had to be euthanized after ingesting a small amount of antifreeze. As you may be aware, a small amount of ethylene glycol (main ingredient of anitfreeze) kills a number of pets each year. Not a pretty site.

If you want to read "Kids back Anitfreeze bill to protect pets", please do so at http://www.emtelegraph.com/300900mtnview02-03-05.htm

Lets hope that "Scooby's" law is introduced soon Federally, to reduce the number of poisonings occuring each year.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step"!! Come and join me and lets both Make a Difference!!

Being my first post, let me say hi to all of you reading. I am an Australian who is very interested in "Denatonium benzoate". For those who don't know what that is, it is the bitterest known substance known to man. Yes, even bitter than the old man down the street from me!!! Only joking old man!! Nothing tastes more bitter than this!! I can assure you!!! If your not convinced, I will send you some!!lol

The company I work for manufactures this, so I know everything (well, almost everything) there is to know about this. For the past few years, we have been trying to convince companies who manufacture harmful tasting products, to add my product to theirs to make it too bitter for humans and pets to consume.

Well, to cut a long story short, I hope I can share with you how I am going convincing companies to add this product to theirs. Its a long way before most harmful products will contain a "bittering agent" but, with help, support and encouragement from you, I hope to make this difference. As they say, "How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time!". Like the child proof cap on bottles, I am also taking it "one bottle at a time".

So come with me on this journey, and help me make a difference. Lets turn harmful tasting products YUCK!!!
